Newton Little League places teams into SYBL (Suburban Youth Baseball League) every summer, by age: 12, 11, 10 and 9. Evaluations and selections start during the spring season. Given the competitive nature of this league teams are formed strictly by age. Players are selected based on their performance in the spring season and a try-out that occurs in May. Depending on numbers, not all players may get selected. There are typically 12-15 players per team. SYBL teams are very competitive and there are limited slots. Playing requires commitments to availability for the season. This is a very competitive league.
The season runs from late June to first week in August plus playoffs which wrap up by mid August. Games are played during the week and there maybe 2-3 games per week. Games occur throughout suburban Boston, with travel as far away as Walpole, Braintree, etc.
Coaches of SYBL teams also often organize additional games by entering area tournaments during 2-4 weekends of the season.
Intramural Summer Travel League (ages 5-8)
Newton Little League offers intramural programs with leagues and teams grouped by age. One division is for 5 & 6 year olds, a second division is for 7 & 8 year olds.
These teams play 2 games per week, during the week to keep weekends free for family time. These games are played on the Newton Little League fields.
